Darrell’s strike just enough

Clay Darrell’s seventeenth minute strike handed Young Men’s Social Club a win over St David’s in an all-First Division FA Cup first-round tie at PHC Field yesterday.

Darrell, an unused substitute for Dandy Town when they beat Flanagan’s Onions in last season’s FA Cup final, continued his scoring form on his return to Social Club.

And he could possibly have had a hat-trick after a couple of misses including late in the first half when he put a header just wide.

Then, just eight seconds into the second half, Darrell went close again, this time blasting over the bar from a good position.

St David’s began to threaten more midway through the second half as the experienced OJ Minors started to create some openings for his team.

Minors shot wide of the far post, and St David’s went close again when substitute Kontaif Burton, who immediately began to inject new life into their attack, lifted his effort over the bar from close range.

Social Club continued to hold onto their slim lead in injury time, and at the other end, Darrell rounded the goalkeeper Kaylin Darrell but Nosaje Anderson deflected his shot for a corner.
