Smith at the double for Hood

At the double: Hood striker Smith, right

Robin Hood continued their impressive start to the Corona League season with a 4-3 victory over North Village at Goose Gosling Field at the weekend.

Village, who won their league opener against Lobster Pot, made a flying start to the game with Ralph Bean and Aljame Zuill, both former Bermuda strikers, scoring early goals.

Hood fought their way back onto level terms through goals from Jamie Smith, the former Bermuda Hogges striker, and midfielder Grant McKellar.

Derek Stapley’s side, who beat West End United in their first game of the season, pulled ahead when Smith struck again before Rohann Simons, his strike partner, added a fourth.

Village ensured it would be nervous finale for Hood with Zuill stroking home his second in the 82nd minute.

Also on Saturday, West End United bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Vasco thanks to goals from Trevor Corday, Christopher DeSilva and Matthew Carvelho, while Flanagan’s Onions were held to 1-1 draw by the league’s newest team, B&V United.

Stewart Foster gave Onions the lead after five minutes. B&V United’s scorer could not be confirmed.

On Friday night at Goose Gosling Field, Lobster Pot defeated BAA Wanderers 3-1 with goals from Denzil Nelson, Willis Ming and Matthew Steede. BAA’s scorer could not be confirmed.

In the later game, Tuff Dogs, the defending champions, enjoyed a 4-2 win over Lock N Key.

Aaron Browne and Ricardo Ponte both scored braces for Dogs, while Blenn Bean and Chris Anderson were on target for Lock N Key. Bean had a penalty saved that would have made the score 4-3.
