Time for PLP to go

May 27, 2011Dear Sir,Election 2011?Can't say I'm surprised that an election is in the offing because things are only going to get worse under this PLP Government. There is nothing the PLP can do now but to reap what they have sown, unfortunately it is we the people, apart from the civil servants, that are suffering. The PLP will not be able to canvass based upon their record of successes during the last four years because they have failed miserably at just about everything they have touched. The PLP will be unable to canvass upon a manifesto that clearly defines the manner in which we will dig ourselves out of our deepening hole of debt, due entirely to their own actions and policies, because they have clearly demonstrated that they haven't the foggiest idea. One wonders if the PLP will actually produce a manifesto that can be critically examined before election day, but based upon their very thin 2007 manifesto's appearance just days before the election, I doubt it. The only thing the PLP will be able to canvass upon will be the usual fear charged negative politicking they successfully used in 2003 and 2007.Expect to hear promises of gifts for all those at the lower end of the economic ladder, at no or minimal cost, like the unsustainable Future Care, free buses, free nursery care and free college education, with, of course, no indication of how it will be paid for. Expect to hear that the OBA is just another white-led UBP. Expect to hear that a vote for the OBA is a vote to return to the plantation. The only way the PLP can win another election based upon their unbelievably dismal record is to once again drive a bigger and wider wedge between the people. To hell with Bermuda, so long as the PLP rules! Feel the love.Should the PLP gain power again, do not expect me to feel for those at the bottom of the employment ladder who have lost their jobs because the wealth managers who created them have been forced out due to the PLP's policies. Do not expect me to feel for those construction workers who lost their jobs because Bermuda is no longer an attractive location to set up a business presence due to the PLP's policies. Do not expect me to feel for those who have lost or risk losing their homes because they don't have foreign workers to rent their apartments that helped to pay the mortgage. We all pay for the choices made on election day and most of us have paid dearly under the PLP.The PLP have nearly destroyed our economy because they were too arrogant to listen to the UBP's financial experts in 2007 when they advised all of us that bad times were coming and we needed to tighten our financial belts and prepare. The PLP refused to listen when told that jobs were being outsourced overseas because of their term limit policies, losing valuable entry and mid level positions for Bermudians. We are all paying for the PLP arrogance that continues to this day.The PLP are acting more and more like the UBP did before we threw them out in 1998. It is time to throw out the PLP and perhaps, with sacrifice and hard work, we may just be able to salvage what we have left and work towards a slightly more prosperous future many many years down the road.VOTE FOR CHANGEPembroke
