Coach Talbot calls for more cutting edge from X-Roads
Khomeini Talbot, the X-Roads coach, believes his side must be clinical in front of goal against St George’s if they are to advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
Tonight’s match, scheduled for 8pm at Devonshire Recreation Club, is the only replay from the first round after the two teams drew 1-1 at Garrison Field last weekend.
Talbot admitted his side’s finishing has not been good enough this season and has urged his players to show some cutting edge tonight against St George’s.
“It is a cup game and it should be another tough game,” Talbot said. “Our finishing needs to improve as that was our biggest issue on Sunday, so we want to correct that matter.
“Our main problem all season has been that we are getting goals from the same players. If we can get goals from somewhere else to ease the burden on these guys then we will be fine.”
Talbot also said that his team’s injuries and suspensions made his selection difficult last weekend.
“We had a few players missing due to injuries and suspensions last weekend, but that’s not an excuse. We will come out to win the game tonight and obviously there has to be a winner,” he said. “When you look at the last match on Sunday, you can tell that there is no room for error for either side and that’s what makes these types of games fun to be involved in.
“Emotions were running high in the first game, and you could see it in the players and they didn’t want to lose.”
Regardless of tonight’s outcome, Talbot said achieving promotion was his side’s top priority. “Cup games are always difficult because it’s one game, unless there is a replay, and these games won’t have an psychological bearing on our league ambitions.
“A cup run is great but our main focus will remain promotion, win or lose.”
The two clubs played to a goalless draw in the First Division earlier this season.
