Two Bermudians, Frenchman still missing

Police are continuing to appeal for the public's help in locating three missing persons.

St. Claire McDonald Augustus, 55, was last seen on February 26 at Friswells Hill, Devonshire. He is known to frequent the Salvation Army in Pembroke, and was also sleeping in a container in that area.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said: "We have reason to be concerned for his well-being and would like to locate Mr. Augustus as a matter of urgency."

Teenager Travis Malcolm Lowe is also still missing. The 16-year-old is described as light-skinned, 5ft 3in tall, with black hair. He is known to frequent Happy Valley Road and was reported missing on February 26.

Detectives are also making a renewed appeal to the public to trace missing 30-year-old Frenchman Mehdi David Yahi.

Mr. Yahi, a visitor to the Island, was last seen on January 31 at the Fairmont Southampton where he attended a Heather Nova concert.

He is described as white, 5ft 7in tall, of slim build with black hair.

Anyone with any information on any of the missing persons should telephone Police on 295-0011.

No injuries in Warwick road crash

Police were called to a collision involving a motorbike and car on Middle Road in Warwick.

No one was seriously injured in the accident, which took place on Tuesday around 6.30 p.m. Said a Police spokesperson: "It appears that the car and the motorcycle were both travelling west on Middle Road, with the car in front of the cycle.

The car came to a sudden stop but the rider of the motorcycle, a 19-year-old Devonshire man, was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the vehicle."

Following the accident the Devonshire man complained of pain to his ankles. The driver of the car, a 32-year-old Sandys parish woman, was not injured. The motorcycle received front end damage while the car received relatively minor rear end damage. Inquiries are underway.

Motorcyclist breaks ankle in crash

A 37-year-old Warwick man broke his ankle after he lost control of his motorbike while travelling near L.F. Wade International Airport.

According to Police the "single vehicle road traffic" accident occurred around 12 a.m.

Said a spokesperson: "It appears that a motorcycle was travelling west on Kindley Field Road when the rider... lost control and fell to the ground near the airport round-a-bout.

The Warwick man sustained a broken left ankle and abrasions to his face. The motorcycle received moderate damage."

Volunteers sought for St. George's cleanup

Volunteers are needed for the third annual St. George's clean-up on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

St. George's deputy mayor Kenny Bascome said he hoped for 100 helpers this year after attracting around 60 last year. He said: "People don't have to do the whole day. If they can donate some time it all helps."

Those wanting to help out should go to the Town Hall in the main square for directions on where help is needed.

Berths still available for Tall Ships race

Young sailors are still needed for a race across the Atlantic this summer.

Almost 50 youngsters from Bermuda have already signed up for the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009 and financial sponsorship is still available for those aged 15 to 30 who want to join in.

This year's event, which commemorates the Island's 400th anniversary, begins in Vigo, Spain on May 3. The two dozen ships taking part then race to Tenerife, Bermuda, South Carolina, Boston and Halifax, before the last leg back to Belfast and the end of the event on August 20.

A Government spokeswoman said yesterday: "With less than six weeks before the start of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge 2009, Bermuda's sail trainees, who have been allocated berths on tall ships, met each other last week and shared their excitement."

She said the participants from Bermuda would join more than 1,000 sail trainees from around the world.

Anyone interested in applying for a berth or volunteering during the Island's Tall Ships Festival, from June 11 to 15, should go to the website www.tallshipsbermuda.com.

Those older than 30 can apply for a berth but have to pay their own expenses. For more information call 296-2238.
