Veteran Trott back on track

Veteran motocross rider Jonathan (Stalk) Trott turned back the hands of time, ending a 16-year exile from the sport to power to victory in the 250cc class championship at Coney Island on the weekend.

Trott, who makes his name these days on the local DJ scene with popular crew Spanish Town, finished the season with 105 points to defeat eventual runner-up Graham Sutherland (77) and Wentworth Tucker (75).

Shaki Easton (45) captured the 250cc B Class.

Another former top rider, Otis Ingham, clinched the Veterans' (over-35) division with a total of 90 points while Kenneth Parker won the overall veterans' category with 256 points.

Garry Cann (133), meanwhile, continued to show a marked improvement after moving up to the 125 B bracket.

Cann recovered after an early crash to pick up a third place finish before dominating the day's final two races from start to finish, though the bigger spoils went to Aaron Pace (296 points) who lifted the overall division with Aaron Cannonier (205) placing second and 250cc B Class champ, Easton (188), finishing in third.

Letroy Trott (248) won his first 125cc C Division title in three years while Jevon Morrisey (171) finished second and Anwar Muhammad (167) third in the race for the championship.

Melonie Munro (225) powered her way to the women's 125cc class title.

Anthony Grant (277) won the 80cc B crown over Shakir Smith (273) and Drake Simmons (37) who finished second and third respectively. CJ Ratteray (309) stormed to the 85cc C Class title, beating out rivals Jonte Smith (266) and Craig Nesbitt Jr (196) ? son of powerboat driver Craig Nesbitt snr.

Brittany Wilson (270) pipped Makail Saltus (264) en route to becoming only the second female rider ever to win a championship and first among the 50cc division. Saltus had to settle for second place honours.

Dale Boorman (326), a third generation rider, clinched the 50cc (seven to nine age group) over Ezra Matthie (299) and Brendon Renaud (236).

Zakai Iris (345) won the 65cc class in only his second year competing, over nearest rivals Kenny Matthie (189) and Kenshae Wilson (45), while Jonah Smith (290) comfortably won the 50cc (four to six age group) over joint runners-up DeAndre Smith-Lightbourn and Jyire Mitchell (284 points apiece). Jazai Woodley-Tear (202) finished third.

This season was reduced from ten races to eight as a direct result of the devastation caused by hurricane Fabian last September.

Race organisers have tentative plans to hold a recreational family fun day in the near future to close out the 2003-04 season.
