Christmas lights winners brighten up charities? lives

The families with the most brightly lit homes in Bermuda won the Festival of Lights for Charity's tenth annual competition this week.

This year an honourable mention category was introduced due to the high quality of entries.

"This year's competition was very difficult to judge," event coordinator Thania Redman said in a release. "The entries were imaginative, creative and well thought out. I did not envy the judges, as they had to make tough decisions at the end of a very long night."

The winners in the residential eastern competition was Edmund Faria and family, followed by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Madeiros and Walter Bardgett and family.

In Central, the winners were Beverley Tavares and family, followed by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pitman and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Mitchell Jr.

But up west, Debbie and Donna Ball won the prize, Mr. Eugene Bean were in second place and Patty-Ann Flood and family followed.

Best community prize went to Cedar Park Community, but it was the Corporation of St. George's that won the commercial and retail category in the east.

A brightly-lit Sousa's Landscape Management Company won in the west and XL Capital won in Hamilton.

Sponsors Bermuda Electric Light Company (Belco) and BF&M Insurance Group donated a total of $11,450 in cash prizes to registered charities, a release said.

Maps to find the winners are located at BF&M and Belco, it said.
