Rohaan Simons proved a handful for Colts at Somerset yesterday as he had a hand in all four goals to help the Trojans ease their Premier Division relegation worries.

Simons was not only the set-up king but also scored twice on a day that saw Colts unable to recover from a first-half blitz by the home side who rarely took their foot off the throttle with a strong wind at their backs.

Joining Simons on the scoresheet were Omar Shakir and Randy Simons who stroked home a penalty right at the end.

But most of the credit will go to Simons who tore the heart out of Colts early.

It was his speed after just five minutes that forced a defender to bring him down just outside the box and Shakir stepped up to fire home a stunning free kick.

Colts steadied themselves and countered with Quincy Aberdeen, who was busy down the right flank. But their attacks always petered out as Aberdeen's crosses failed to find a team-mate.

As Somerset continued to look sharp, Colts' goalkeeper Kevin Bean was kept on his toes, twice called upon to slap tremendous left-footed drives from Shakir over the bar after 29 and 30 minutes.

Then the inevitable second goal came after 34 minutes when Simons sneaked through the defence to coolly glance home a corner from Dion Stovell.

The Trojans finished off the half with Simons heading a cross by Stovell which forced Bean to dive to his right to save.

The trend should have changed after the interval as Colts looked to take advantage of the wind, but all they could manage during the first 10 minutes was a powerfully struck shot by skipper Shannon Burgess from 18 yards that sailed inches wide of the post.

While Trojans couldn't match their first half performance, they never allowed Colts to take the initiative.

Simons and Stovell combined again after 63 minutes to almost produce a goal, but the latter saw his shot from 14 yards saved by a diving Bean.

Colts had a chance after 76 minutes when Jermaine Aberdeen headed a Michael Bean chip that seemed destined for the back of goal but Randy Simmons was in position to clear the ball away.

Ten minutes later Colts striker Lloyd Holder also came close to getting his side on the scoresheet but he sent his shot right at goalkeeper Reid Jones from 13 yards.

Then Simons finished the game off in style, converting a cross from Stovell to make it 3-0 and then creating the fourth when he was fouled on a break down the right that led to Simmons firing home the penalty.

The game was well handled by visiting English referee Jeff Russell who didn't make a single booking.
