Why still no justice for my Shaundae?
The mother of a young man gunned down in cold blood almost four years ago has again criticised officials for failing to bring someone to justice for his murder.
Speaking on the anniversary of Shaundae Jones? birthday his grieving mother Marsha Jones said it appeared people in a position to do something about his death simply could not be bothered.
Shaundae was killed by a shotgun blast to his chest in Dockyard on April 27, 2003.
Mrs. Jones vowed the family would not forget her son even if the authorities seemed keen to drop the matter.
She told yesterday: ?Another year has come and gone that my son was not here to celebrate his birthday. He would have been 24 on January 16.?
But she said no one had been held accountable for the cold blooded murder.
?It seems as though the people who are in the position to get things done about my son?s assassination just can?t be bothered.
?They treat Shaundae?s murder as if it was misdemeanour case.
?The more I speak to the Police they have nothing to tell me and it seems as though it is not important anymore.?
She said then Attorney General Larry Mussenden had promised to make some inquires. But he was then dismissed when new Premier Ewart Brown took over.
?The excuses that I have been given over the last year are totally unbelievable. This is why I feel they can?t be bothered.?
She said despite the the technology available today Police had yet to nail Shaundae?s killer or find who shot dead Jason Lightbourne in Paget in June. ?Shaundae and Jason Lightbourne were assassinated and you do not hear anything about either cases. ?The message that is being sent in Bermuda is that you could shoot people and get away with it.
?It seems as though that when guns are involved the cases seem to vanish in to thin air.
?There are a few Police that really care about my son?s case, but they need the support of their superiors which seems to be problem and they keep coming up to road blocks.?
And Mrs. Jones cousin Sharyn Menzies said: ?Here it is another birthday for Shaundae without him and without justice.
?I just don?t understand what is going on or better yet what is notgoing on. I just can?t believe the lack of progress and concern in this case.
?I just want to let you and the public know we (the family) will not let Shaundae or his murder be forgotten.?
Last night Police spokesman Dwayne Caines could only say: ?Investigations are on going. We are following all leads.?
