Hood regain top spot as Wanderers slip up
Saturday when they capitalised on BAA Wanderers' 0-0 draw with third-placed Lobster Pot by beating MR Onions 3-0.
Hood, who trailed champions Wanderers by a point and led Lobster Pot by a point going into the weekend, now lead the standings by a point after goals from Allan Mooney (2) and Ian Dowie sealed their win over Onions, their seventh in 11 outings.
Fourth-placed Fire Service moved level on points with Lobster Pot after beating Spinning Wheel 4-1 while Ireland Rangers and St. George's All-Stars also scored four times in beating Mariners and North Village Rams.
Rangers enjoyed a 4-2 win with Donald Madeiros, Troy Berkeley, Wendell Anderson and Dennis DeRosa scoring while M.Bean and C.Dixon replied for Mariners.
Bottom team St. George's All-Stars picked up their second win in the league with a 4-1 triumph over the Rams. Delbert Minors, Cal Rayner, Charles Wade and Sinclair Smith scored for the All-Stars while Allan Smith replied for the Rams.
In Group B, unbeaten leaders Forties continued their push for promotion with their 10th win in 11 matches which extended their lead at the top to seven points.
Forties were led to a 4-0 win over Valley by goals from Brian Fubler, Roy Fellows and Mike Williams (2). Prison Officers were replaced in second place by Somerset Extros who beat them 5-3 as Steve Riley (2) and Everett Wellman got among the goals for the winners.
Donald Norford netted twice and Gary Bascome, Anthony Amory and Eugene Eversley all scored for Devonshire Lions in the 5-1 win over Wolves. Kevin Hendrickson replied for Wolves.
Belco continued their good form with a 6-0 thrashing of Bermuda Pest Control as Gerald Sims and Michael Brangman both netted twice and Craig Brangman and Dean Smith one apiece.
Exiles picked up their second win, beating Devonshire All-Stars 2-0 on goals from Craig Tyrrell and Antoine Cannonier.
Floodlight problems at St. John's Field will prevent Dandy Town from hosting their first night match this Friday. Instead the First Division encounter between Dandy Town and Hotels has been moved to Sunday.
Meanwhile, the six FA Cup matches scheduled for next week will not now be played on the same night. Instead there will be matches on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The double-header at Devonshire Rec. between Dandy Town and St.David's and Prospect and Devonshire Cougars will remain on Wednesday, with the Vasco-Hotels and PHC-Dev.Colts matches at BAA Field brought forward to Tuesday. The games scheduled for Somerset -- North Village against St.
George's and Somerset and Boulevard -- will now be held next Thursday night.
