High jumper Ronan Kane, a former Saltus schoolboy, won the bronze medal when he competed at Ireland's national senior athletic championships on Saturday.
Returning from injury, 18-year-old Kane cleared 2.1 metres to finish behind two of Ireland's representatives in next month's European Championships in Spain, Mark Mandy (2.23m) and Anton Burke (2.15).
Ten days ago, Kane failed to win a medal at a major meet for the first time in his career when he made his return from injury at the indoor AAA Championships in Birmingham, England.
He returns to Birmingham this Saturday for the under-21 National Championships, a continuation of his build-up to the track and field season in Europe this summer.
Kane's father, John, is chief organiser of Bermuda's World Ruby Classic.

GOLF GLF Entries are beginning to flow in for next month's men's and ladies' annual Amateur Match Play Championships which, for the first time, are being held at the same time at Mid Ocean Club.
Some ten ladies have signed up for the March 10-13 event, including visitors Reggie Parker (formerly Hawes) who won in 1989 and 1991 and 1994 runner-up Lee Ann Vogel.
Among the 42 men so far entered are last year's champion Tim Carr and American Dick Horne who won in 1984, '85 and '86.
