Frail senior tried to rearrange coronavirus test more than 50 times through hotline

A 80-year-old woman too frail to queue for a coronavirus test called the Covid-19 hotline more than 50 times to reschedule her four-day test without getting through, she said yesterday.

The senior, who asked not to be named, returned to Bermuda from Boston last Saturday and needed to arrange a special test because neither she or her husband were able to stand in line at the Perot Post Office test centre because of medical conditions.

Both are under quarantine and had been due their four day test today.

She tried to call the hotline on Monday, but said the line just kept ringing and eventually cut out.

The woman, from Warwick, said: “I can’t tell you how many times I called that hotline, I was so frustrated.

“My beef is no one is answering or acknowledging there is a problem with the hotline.

“I tried at least 50 times. Whether there is a glitch, I don’t know because someone else was able to get through to it.

“We could not be at the Perot Post Office because my husband and I can not walk or stand for that long.”

She added the problem was not resolved until she contacted the Department of Health direct.

The woman said: “They dialled the number and got through. They couldn’t offer any explanation - they don’t want to know there is a problem.

“I have had no problem receiving or making other calls and I am sure I had the right number.”

The Ministry of Health did not respond to a request for comment.
