Smith leads local runners in New York
Top road runner Kavin Smith led home a huge Island contingent at yesterday?s New York City Marathon, placing 75th overall among some 32,000 starters.
The 37-year-old clocked two hours, 35 minutes and 53 seconds to be the 63rd male finisher and place 27th in his age group.
Brett Forgesson was the second-best Bermudian, recording 2:50:53 for 230th place. The 40-year-old was the 205th male to complete the 26.2 mile trek through all five New York boroughs and 37th in his age group.
Another local Master (over 40), Ricky Sousa, was 398th in 2:57:54 while Geoffrey Blee clocked 3:07:07 for 727th position and Colin Swan placed 1,068th in 3:13:41.
More than 70 Bermuda runners entered this year?s Big Apple race, although at press time last night not all of their results could be confirmed.
Lynn Patchett placed 1,508th (158th among the women) in 3:19:48. The 37-year-old was also 75th in her age category. Mary Darling finished 5,673rd in (923rd female) in 3:51:04.
Other Bermuda runners who successfully ran the event were Steven Coppola, Gary Wilson, Stephen Dunkley, Sarah Farrar, Vivienne Moniz, Benjamin Draper, Stephen DeSilva, Latoya Trott, Rosemary Jones, Rene Lamer and Joanna Fowler.
