Juniors eye triathlon
Championships, juniors will also have a chance to shine in the Pirates Port Triathlon for youngsters aged 7-14.
A field of more than 100 is expected at Clearwater Beach as the juniors vie for prizes in every age group as well as in team competition for boys and girls.
The seven to ten-year-olds will compete over a 100-metre swim, 5K bike ride and 1K run. Raishun Burch, just seven years old, will be setting his sights on some of the older boys.
In the competitive nine-year-old boys division, Geoffrey Smith, who has already won the National Duathlon Championships and Tri Gatorade Triathlon, should again dominate the field.
With ten-year-olds Adam Petty and Mathew Herring likely to be starting in the advanced 11-14 category, the way should again be open for Sebastian Ball to take overall honours in the ten-year-old boys.
Nine-year-old Flora Duffy, a national age group champion swimmer and the fastest distance runner in her age group on the island, is a top junior prospects. She should dominate the girls seven to 10 and will be gauging her performance against the boys.
Chloe Kempe, who is making great strides this season and ran a 5:03 1K in the Tri Gatorade Triathlon, should take the girls ten-year-old title.
The 11-14-year olds will compete over a 200-metre swim, 10K bike and 2K run.
However, advanced 11-14-year-olds will compete over a 300-metre swim, 15K bike and 3K run. One of the best match-ups will be in the girls 11-year-old division, featuring Robyn Dickinson, Ashley Kirkpatrick and Jennifer Baikie.
Interest will focus on the boys advanced 11-14-year olds where 11-year-old Lawson Williams will be competing over the longer distance for the first time.
Roy-Allen Burch was the winner of the 11-year-old advanced in the Tri Gatorade triathlon. However, both Williams and Burch will face a stiff challenge from ten-year-olds Matthew Herring and Adam Petty, both of whom finished ahead of Burch in the Tri Gatorade.
In the 12-year-old boys advanced, Chris Conway will be hoping to turn the tables on Brian Steinhoff, who edged him out in the Tri Gatorade for the first time. The 13-year-old category should go to Nick Taylor.
Entry forms are avalable from Pirates Port, Sportseller, Sports Locker and New Winner's Edge. Entries close at 5 p.m. Friday.
