Perinchief wants set penalties for drug offences PLP backbenchers Wayne Perinchief has said set penalties should be brought in for drugs offences.
And he slammed soft sentences for importers while people guilty of less serious offences languished in jail.
He said: "We have people serving more time for not paying support than a person who brought a large amount of drugs in to this country and didn't serve time.
"There should be a mandatory offence. Even traffic offences have some set penalties. I don't want to go as far as the three strikes and you're out but we should move in that direction.'' His colleague Dale Butler said customs were being too open about how they were tackling the drug menace and were giving the game away to potential smugglers.
He said: "They bring in a new bit of equipment and then tell them where it is going to be. It doesn't make sense.''
