Driver banned for three years
A man who drove drunk twice within 30 days has been banned from the roads for three years.Garry Raynor, 44, was threatened with 18 months’ imprisonment in Magistrates’ Court — but escaped with a suspended prison sentence.The court heard that Raynor was pulled over at 2.20am on March 16 by a police officer checking traffic at Blue Hole Hill in Hamilton Parish.Asked to show his licence, he replied: “Officer, I wouldn’t lie to you — I don’t have one.”Raynor smelled of alcohol, and told officers he’d drunk four beers and “burned a spliff at Devil’s Hole Club”.He asked to be allowed to walk home, but was arrested. He refused to provide a sample of breath.Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Cindy Clarke said Raynor was also pulled over for driving while impaired on February 19, and had been disqualified from driving on March 14.Raynor told the court he was trying to get treatment for alcoholism and asked for “a chance to get my life started”.Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined him $2,500 and disqualified him from driving for three years for the offence. He was also ordered to pay $500 and given a six-month suspended sentence for driving while disqualified.
