Praise for good Samaritans

September 29, 2011Dear Sir,I wish to express my thanks to two good Samaritans who assisted me and others on September 27 at Tynes Bay Dump.I had an enormous box containing an old barbecue in the back of my car. It was too heavy for me to handle alone, but I knew that there was always a gentleman who worked at the dump to assist with heavy items, especially for seniors like me! Upon arrival, there was nobody on duty at the dump, and there was another car with another senior waiting for assistance as well. He had half of a cast iron bath tub to move! After awhile, a lady drove in and, after disposing of her trash, she offered assistance with my huge box. I warned her it was too heavy for one person to move, but she proceeded to manhandle that box out of my car and onto the sidewalk, ending up by the bin for metals. I was then able to empty the box of metals and pull the empty box over to the household trash bin. The lady disappeared and I only had a chance to say a brief ‘thank you'.In the meantime, a gentleman in a Lobster Pot van drove up. He assisted the other senior to move the weighty bath tub into the requisite dump bin. He then came and assisted me to heave the empty but still heavy box into the household trash bin. Again, after saying ‘thank you', he disappeared quickly. I have no idea who these two kind people were, but want to publicly thank them, and I hope they see this letter. I think this is what is meant by “random acts of kindness”. Hopefully I can pay it forward some day. Ironically, as I returned to my car, the gentleman who works at the dump strolled into sight … either he timed his return perfectly, or it was dumb luck … not sure which!CAROL WILLSSt. David's
