Canadians hold beach party
More than 800 people flocked to Chaplin Bay to celebrate Canada Day – the Association of Canadians in Bermuda's ninth annual Canada Day Celebration.
ACIB president Charline Cormier said: "In Canada, Canada Day is typically celebrated with family and friends in a very casual manner, with many people going to cottages, or hosting barbeques with friends.
"We try to emulate that same relaxed 'come as you are' attitude, where people can come and celebrate our nation with good cheer, and holding true to the Canadian spirit, we encourage all nationalities to join us."
Increased attendance was not the only change to this year's celebration, the organisers included other elements that further broadened its appeal.
According to Charline: "We wanted to make the event geared to families and children, in addition to the singles crowd." The event featured a children's tent with games, and prizes, face painting, and treats for the children.
Dive Bermuda was also present with its tent, offering free snorkel equipment to the attendees, with many children opting to explore the waters in Chaplin Bay.
Furthering the focus on family and children, was this year's inclusion of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters programme. Bigs and Littles were invited to join Saturday's festivities, and given complimentary admission to the event and all its offerings.
"We were very excited to join with BBBS this year, and look forward to strengthening our bond with them, and cooperating with them in the future on other events," added Charline.
