Bromby hanging in there
Peter Bromby knows hanging on to his Bacardi Cup crown will be a long shot, but the Bermudian is determined to try nonetheless.
After two days where he failed to make the top ten in Florida, he then saw another lost to bad weather.
But yesterday the Island Olympian and crew Martin Siese did their best to right the ship and improve on their 13th place overall.
"We had a better day and finished with a six and a seven and are in sixth place overall," said Bromby.
However, the finishes could have been even better.
"In the first race we got to first weather mark in third," he said. "From there we slowly got ground down. It was a little disappointing as we got a little out of phase with the shifts and were worked back to sixth."
The second race was almost a carbon copy, with the pair third before being pushed back. "From that point of view it was a little disappointing," Bromby said.
With a little more luck Bromby believed the Bermudians would have been in touch with the leaders.
"There wasn't that much in it today," he said. "The guys that ended 1-2 got a little bit of leverage on us, got on the inside of the shift up the first beat and just sprung away from us a little bit. But on the whole we are going well, we are still happy and are looking forward to a good day tomorrow."
With 60 percent of the sailing gone, the duo have their work cut out to close the gap.
"It's a tall order from this point, but it's not impossible," he said. "Some lighter wind would be good for us. It's been quite windy today and with a little less wind we could have some things happen for us."
Racing continues through tomorrow.
