Casino ship case adjourned
The Panamanian ship captain accused of running a casino ship in Bermuda waters was granted a month with the newborn baby he hasn?t yet seen on Wednesday in Magistrates? Court.
Fermin Alfonso Reyes, 29, captain of the casino ship and George Kezas, 71, managing director of Corinthian Ltd. are charged with importing 100 gaming machines contrary to the Gaming Machines Act on July 24. Captain Reyes? wife reportedly gave birth on the day that he was arrested.
The trial continued in Magistrates? Court with testimony from Det. Con. Jewel Hayward who works with the forensic support unit of the police.
Det. Con. Hayward took photographs of the when police raided the ship when it docked alongside Marginal Wharf in St. George?s on August 7.
During the raid police and HMS Customs agents removed numerous gaming machines, computers and documents from the 196-foot luxury ship. Machines that couldn?t be removed were covered in customs tape to make sure they weren?t interfered with.
?I took a series of photographs showing gaming machines on the upper and lower deck of the Niobe Corinthian,? Det. Con. Hayward told Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo. ?There were 100 gaming machines in total.?
Det. Con. Hayward turned the photographs into an album, which he showed the court. The photographs showed the ship from various angles, and also machines with and without customs tape.
The trial continues on October 3.
