PHC forced to play waiting game over County team

PHC defend their Western Counties crown against Willow Cuts tomorrow, but who'll be playing, and who won't, is going to be a last minute decision.

With Kevin Tucker and Fiqre Crockwell both part of the national squad, PHC have been preparing to play the game without two of their top players.

However they may get one, or both of them back this afternoon, when David Moore cuts his –17-man squad down to the 14 or 15 players who will be involved in the Intercontinental Shield game against UAE next week.

The likelihood is that both Tucker and Crockwell will be unavailable, in Crockwell's case that may be because he has been banned by the Bermuda Cricket Board following an incident in last Sunday's league game against Devonshire Rec.

Crockwell apparently stood his ground after being given out, and was due to face a disciplinary committee last night.

"We're really preparing without them (Tucker and Crockwell) because they were called up to the national squad," said PHC skipper Kyle Lightbourne. "And if anything happens then obviously they will be included in our team.

"Cal Waldron didn't play last week due to injury, but he's a possibility to return, and Mark Smith, who hasn't played at all this season, he might get a game. David Adams will also be available this week, he missed last week because he had a knee injury."

Despite stunning holders Southampton Rangers last weekend, PHC will again go into the game as slight underdogs against a Cuts side boasting the talents of senior Bermuda internationals George O'Brien, and Chris Douglas, as well as Under-19 players Kevon Fubler and Deunte Darrell.

The challengers will however have to cope without the services of Malachi Jones and Sheroy Fubler, who are both serving domestic bans.

A bye last week, and the postponement of their game against St David's the previous week, means that Cuts have yet to play a game since Jones' two-week ban was handed down on –June 15 by the Bermuda Cricket Board.

That means the Bermuda fast bowler will miss tomorrow's game, plus the Premier Division match between the two, which is due to take place at Somerset on Sunday.

Fubler meanwhile is unlikely to feature for the rest of the season, having picked up an eight match ban for his part in an ugly incident between Willow Cuts and Somerset several weeks ago.

Meanwhile Devonshire Rec and Social Club will meet at St John's Field in the first round of this season's shortened Central Counties tomorrow, with the winners due to play Western Stars in the final round.

Both teams are likely to be without first choice players with both Chris Foggo (Rec) and Rodney Trott (Social Club) expected to be part of the Bermuda squad to face UAE.
