Folk Club's back after the break
Among the performers are:
Chris Broadhurst, singer/guitarist and one of the early Folk Club members and best known as one of the performers in Not the Um Um Show *L*p(0,10,0,9.1,0,0,g)>for the past 20 years, has recently accompanied Gavin Wilson for his Lockjaw comedy shows. In addition to having an album of his own, Chris has created most of the music for Not The Um Um Show, adapting many of the Beatles’ songs. While he’s best known for his humorous performances, he can belt out a stirring rendition of cover tunes and original compositions.
Jeanie Flath, guitarist and vocalist extraordinaire, is one of the founding members of the Folk Club, she has been touted as one of Wallace’s inspirations whose performance of jazzy and blues tunes are second to none.
Hiram Edwards, well-known trumpeter, will make a return to the club with his entire band in memory of the late Paul Gibbons, who was also a Folk Club member and guitarist for Last Rights.
Michael Cacy, guitarist and vocalist, was once quoted as saying: “I cannot remember when I first started to play, it was that long ago!” Known for playing Country and Westerns, as well as the Blues, he has penned a number of compositions about Bermuda.
Darren Meksymetz, guitarist and vocalist, is fast becoming a regular at the Folk Club. He is instrumental (no pun intended) in much of the behind-the-scenes work at the club and can hold his own on stage.
Matthew Joseph, singer, songwriter and guitarist, has teamed up with Joy Barnham to perform original compositions. Barnham will again join Joseph as they will sing and play original pieces in the genre of World Fusion.
Val Wallace, guitarist/vocalist and host of the evening, will perform some original songs. Wallace was over the moon with the stellar line-up, saying: “I would like to thank Janet Pyrah, administrator extraordinaire, who has helped put together and promote this night. I have invitations out to Matthew Joseph, John Bohan (traditional Irish folk singer), Louise Southwood (classical guitarist and teacher) and Heather Nova (Bermudian singer / songwriter), so we may have some great surprises as well. I’m looking forward to a great night starting between 8 and 8.30 p.m. at the Old Colony Club.
Anyone else wishing to play should contact Wallace at 799-2020.
