Girls find it tough

Bermuda's girls found the going tough with a depleted team at the Caribbean Junior Championships in Guyana.

With a team of only three players matching up against five from the other countries, Bermuda start each tie two matches behind.

This means that all three players must win for Bermuda to take the tie.

On Thursday the team were unable to achieve this difficult feat and lost 4-1 to both Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados.

"It is a little frustrating that we have girls at home that could be winning matches for us here and potentially place us in the top three in the girl's team event," said Bermuda's director of squash Ross Triffitt.

"More importantly it would give us a much better chance at the overall title.

"Thankfully, with next year's championships in the Cayman Islands we expect to be sending a full team."

The one highlight for the team was Laura Robinson gaining revenge over arch-rival Bo Harris from Barbados. Robinson lost to Harris in the individual final in four games, but on Thursday she managed to reverse the result winning 9-3, 9-3, 4-9, 9-2.

Robinson lost the Under-13 final to Harris two years ago in Barbados and was then able to beat Harris in the team event. This year she managed to repeat the feat.

Yesterday the girls took on Jamaica and today they face The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
