Musicians sound off for Amnesty International

Amnesty International Bermuda's fifth jazz extravaganza -Jazz and Razzmatazz -- takes place on Sunday November 23 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Hamilton Princess Hotel.

Streamlined to be more jazz-specific, this year's event will highlight over 30 local performers - just a mere fraction of the vast reservoir of Bermuda's talented musicians.

Featured will be Shine Hayward, The Ralph Ebbin Trio, Gita Blakeney, JAZ, Deletta Gillespie, The Vic Glazer Jazztet, SHE, Fires and Africa, LeYoni Junos, Tempo, June and Phiemma Caisey, Legacy and The James Richardson Trio.

This event promises to be an afternoon of exciting improvisation, song and drama.

Derick `CJ' Symonds will be hosting the event, and proceeds will benefit the important human rights work being done by Amnesty International Bermuda.

Tickets can be purchased for $20 at Amnesty International Bermuda in the Dallas Building.

Amnesty International was founded in 1961 to focus public attention on human rights violations.

One of the largest organisations in the world, with one and a half million members on over 150 countries, AI received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1977 and the United Nations Human Rights Prize in 1978.

The organisation is credited with saving the lives of nearly 50,000 people, since its inception, through letter writing and international publicity campaigns.

The Bermuda section has been active since 1983 and has over 170 members -- including school students.

*** The Bermuda Nurses Association presents a gospel extravaganza on Saturday, November 22 at 7 p.m.

Under the distinguished patronage of Annette Lightbourne, past president of the BNA, Gospel artists from around the island will be featured including the Nurses Choir.

Tickets cost only $10 and are available from the BNA executive, or leave a message on the voice mail at 291-0294.

Proceeds raised will go toward the BNA scholarship /education fund.
