Airport gets new departure gate

The departure gates at Bermuda International Airport have been re-named with a new departure gate D added. Airport general manager James Howes said the new plan eliminates the confusion of having departure gates and airside boarding gates numbered and lettered in opposite directions. This resulted in the addition of the new gate D.

Under the new plan, gate A (formally international departures) will be for USA 3000, Air Canada and British Airways, gate B for Delta Airlines and US Airways and gate C will be for Continental and American Airlines.

The newly constructed gate D, on the second departures level, will be used when needed for US bound flights which are not pre-cleared by US Customs and Border Protection, including some of the USA 3000 evening flights.

Signs have been installed throughout the terminal making it easy to find the new gates.

BA flight diverted after passenger becomes ill

A British Airways flight had to be diverted to Bermuda on Sunday afternoon after a passenger reportedly became ill.

Airport terminal manager Michael Osborn said the flight, en route to Nassau in the Bahamas, landed at Bermuda International Airport shortly after 3 p.m. He said the 36-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and the BA flight took off at about 4 p.m.
