Division this season.

No clear cut favourites emerged on opening day yesterday and it appears any one of about six teams could mount a serious challenge.

Last season's two relegated teams from the old First Division both failed to win -- Devonshire Cougars going down at Police Field to Prospect and Hamilton Parish sharing the points at Shelly Bay in a high scoring draw against Somerset Eagles.

Prospect 3 Dev.Cougars 1 Prospect held a 1-0 half-time lead through Andrew Rollins' 39th minute effort and went on to win comfortably at Police Field.

Prospect added a second through Dwayne Leverock in the 50th minute before Robert Goodchild made it 3-0 in the 81st minute after a Cougars move broke down. Substitute Gilbert Grimes pulled one back for Cougars from close range in the 89th minute.

Ham.Parish 4 Som.Eagles 4 Eight goals and two red cards kept referee Gregory Smith busy at Shelly Bay field as Parish and Eagles shared the points.

Leon Raynor opened the scoring for Parish in the fifth minute only to see Ruffins Hill (13th) and Eddie Callender (18th) put Eagles in front. Striker Sean Dill had Parish back in front by the end of the first half when he struck in the 40th and 43rd minutes to make it 3-2.

Three goals in two minutes then closed out the scoring as Darren Dowling netted in the 68th and 69th minutes to make it 4-3 for the visitors only to see Dill complete his hat-trick and earn Parish a point with his third in the 70th minute.

Two players were sent off -- Nieko Dill of Parish for a second bookable offence and Eagles goalkeeper Ed Burrows for head butting Alvin Baker.

St. George's 0 I.Rangers 2 New look Ireland Rangers got off to a good start at Wellington Oval, beating the home team with a goal in each half.

Jermaine Saltus opened the scoring in the 40th minute before Michael Mendes made it 2-0 in the 65th minute. St. George's were competitive up to that point but lost their spirit after the second goal.

Ricky Tucker made some crucial saves in the Rangers goal. The home team had a goal disallowed in the 85th minute.

Paget 1 Social Club 3 Social Club enjoyed an important opening day win, beating Paget at White Hill field.

Raymond Burgess, Mike Parsons and Dennis Russell scored for Social Club while Robin Lee replied for Paget.
