Village coach asks for more
Despite coming off two victories, North Village coach Scott Morton believes his table-topping team still need to show a marked improvement in tonight's Friendship Trophy semi-final against Devonshire Colts at Devonshire Rec. (9.00 p.m.).
While this second game in a double-header should produce a close result, the opening Shield semi-final between Boulevard and Hamilton Parish (7.00 p.m.) is also expected to be tight between two sides well placed in the First Division.
For defending champions Village to reach the final again, having beaten Dandy Town 4-2 a year ago, Morton realises that they will have to lift their performance above the level of their past two outings when they edged lowly St. George's 2-1 on Sunday after a similarly uninspiring 2-1 triumph over Devonshire Colts in the FA Cup quarter-final a week earlier.
"I want my players to remember how we played to get us off to a good start for the the second half of the season," said Morton. "They should try to stick to the concept and remember that we can only do what we train to do."
"I want improved output from the last two games even though we were winners. Victory is not always the most important thing to me, it's how we conduct ourselves to achieve that victory, because I don't like winning ugly. We must remember to work on what helps us to play well."
In sharp contrast, Colts' coaching staff have to be pleased after sharing the points in a 1-1 away draw against Dandy Town on Sunday - a contest Colts could have won if sloppy defending had not handed Town an equaliser.
