Persistent couple get their dream vacation

That was the thought in the heads of Tampa couple Christian and Kristine Passath who finally made it to Bermuda this weekend -- one year after they were supposed to come for their honeymoon.

Third time lucky.

That was the thought in the heads of Tampa couple Christian and Kristine Passath who finally made it to Bermuda this weekend -- one year after they were supposed to come for their honeymoon.

Yesterday Mr. Passath told The Royal Gazette yesterday that each time he and his wife had tried to come to Bermuda their hopes had been literally blown away by hurricanes hitting the East Coast of the US.

Last year the couple were booked to visit the Island for their honeymoon but Hurricane Iris changed their plans when she ploughed into the US.

Mr. Passath said they decided to put the trip off until this year but their flight from Tampa to Charlotte on September 6 was cancelled when Hurricane Fran struck.

"Maybe the Lord was trying to tell us to avoid Bermuda,'' he joked.

Undaunted, they pushed their travel arrangements ahead one day and finally arrived in Bermuda on Saturday afternoon in time for their first anniversary today.

Mr. Passath said: "The wait was definitely worth it. You have a beautiful Island here.'' Since arriving the couple -- who are staying at Marley Beach Cottages -- have been snorkelling at Church Bay and touring on a livery cycle.

He said the staff at Marley Beach had been great -- the couple arrived to find champagne and a basket of fruit in an executive suite. Their room was upgraded from the studio they had originally booked.

The South Shore, Warwick resort's manager Igan Jensen said the staff admired the couple and had even nicknamed them "The Persistent Passaths''.
