History of art books published

November 15, 2011Dear Sir,Readers of your paper will, I think, be interested to know that I have recently published the first two volumes of my “Bermuda in Painted Representation” art history trilogy, in a text-only Preview Edition, intended chiefly for reference libraries and other important collections. The trilogy (which is a detailed treatment of the twin subjects of Bermuda in art, and artists in Bermuda) will eventually see the light of day in a proper illustrated form, but I wanted to share some of the fruits of my years of research with the public now, rather than making people wait (possibly for several years) for a conventional edition that they can buy.Regrettably, the Preview Edition consists of only twelve sets, six of which have been given to overseas recipients and six to Bermuda recipients (including two sets to the Bermuda National Library). These first two volumes (“The Garrison Era” and “The Cosmopolitan Era”) cover over a thousand artists, and go up to about 1953. The third volume (“The Bermudian Era”) is still a work in progress, and continues the story up to around the end of the 20th Century. The books are carefully indexed and extensively footnoted, and should prove to be a very useful resource, including for people interested in knowing more about some particular artist, and also as a source book for historical depictions of Bermuda.I am always interested to hear from members of the public who may have artworks or information relevant to this subject, and I can best be contacted by e-mail at jonathanevans36[AT]hotmail.com.JONATHAN LAND EVANSPaget
