Scheme planned to link students with potential employers
Government Friday unveiled plans to provide Bermudian university and college graduates with a new and modern way to link to local employers.
Using both a database and a registry, the website careers.gov.bm will facilitate an information exchange about jobs, careers and other employment opportunities for Bermudians students here and abroad.
So far, between ten and 20 employers are onboard with the scheme and Government plans to take the concept on a "road show" to get more employers involved. It is to be launched by February.
For many years, information from Government's student and graduate register was limited to overseas students and was collected from the Immigration cards of returning students to Bermuda.
Even though the cards were scanned and the images stored, it was still a challenge to locate and enter the career information into a database, the press conference heard.
Once launched, students will also be able to review prospective jobs, download company policies, complete a job application form and connect with the employer.
And employers are able to register online, manage career information, post jobs and connect with students.
The project was initiated through the Commission for Unity and Racial Equality (CURE) in 2004 and centralised with Government's Central Policy Unit in 2005.
The work was continued by the Ministry of Community and Cultural Affairs' Departments of Human Affairs and Department of E-Government.
