Hood give thanks to coach Bascome
Robin Hood have sent their best wishes to Andrew Bascome after he stepped down from as coach of the Premier Division side at the end of their FA Cup campaign that ended a week ago.Under Bascome the club have gone from a respectable Commercial League team to a Premier Division side battling for top honours in less than three years.Both club secretary Robert Emmett and president Derek Stapley took time out to thank the former Bermuda international for his dedication to the club and said theyunderstood his reasons for stepping down.Bascome pointed to his focus on ‘grassroots’ football as well as family commitments as the primary reason for his departure.“Robin Hood Football Club wish to thank Andrew Bascome for his work at the club for the past the years,” said Emmett. “During that time, we have transitioned from a Commercial League Club to a full member of the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) with an established Premier Division team as well as a competitive Corona League team, a Sunday Breakfast League team, a new Ladies team for the coming 2012 season and visions of a PDL team for 2012/13.“We respect coach Bascome’s decision to spend time with his wife Selina and family and wish him well in all his future endeavours which will initially encompass utilising his vast coaching knowledge at the “grassroots” level of local football, something which he has always had a passion for.“Robin Hood will be hiring a professional coaching team in good time for the 2012/13 season and are currently in the process of drawing up a shortlist of candidates”.Bascome took over coaching duties at the pub club in 2010 and in his first season at the helm guided the former Commercial Division team to promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in the club’s history.Hood managed to survive in the top flight during their inaugural season and also reached the semi-final of the FA Cup.They lost to North Village 1-0.President Stapley echoed his secretary’s remarks, stating: “Andrew’s coaching skills have been particularly instrumental in our Premier Division team gaining promotion from the First Division last year, and an encouraging debut season in the Premier League, where we finished seventh and reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 1991.”“Last year I struggled to carry the season through because of my family commitments,” said coach Bascome. “ I have a family and four children who I need to put time in with but my Sundays are always gone due to football.“My focus has now shifted to development and it has to be because our game is not where it should be locally.”
