Two ways to save money

June 9, 2011Dear Sir,It is becoming more and more difficult to make ends meet and Government can hardly help as they are spending what little income they do receive from tax payers on paying off the billion dollar debt they created and paying our still overlarge Civil Service. If we are to survive we need to look for our own means of savings. Here are two suggestions. Stop buying bottled water. This will save a small fortune, save on hard earned foreign exchange going back overseas and be ecologically sound. (Yes, I know Barritt’s bottles locally treated water but they still import the bottles). To my knowledge, even when tanks are not cleaned as regularly as they should be, nobody has ever died from drinking our roof caught rainwater and few have become ill unless the tank is really dirty or contaminated well water has been added. To me it is the best tasting water in the world. Should you be stuck with chlorinated piped water, add a carbon filter. Perhaps the Department of Health would like to comment on the quality of our roof caught rainwater? How many people owned cell phones 20 years ago? Were we still able to communicate? Were emergencies still addressed in a timely manner? Apart from business people who feel they must be connected 24/7, how many of us actually need expensive cellular devices and the expensive contracts or prepaid cards that come with them? There was a time when we would all sit around the dinner table as a family and tell each other what had happened to us that day. Now, due to the appendages connected to our ears, most feel the need to immediately talk, tweet or face book all their friends and family when the tiniest of events takes place. Not only does this cost employers an inordinate amount of money in lost productivity, dinner time is now often silent as there is nothing left to say. I have been to restaurants and seen four young ladies all texting while eating, nobody said a word to each other after the initial greeting. Try going without your cellular device for a week, talk to you friends face to face and see how much money you save by communicating in person. We were once a people that used all our resources to the full, now we waste them. Anybody else got saving tips to share?WISE SPENDERPembroke
