League more important than Counties – Fubler
Willow Cuts coach Rodney Fubler believes tomorrow's league match against PHC at Somerset Cricket Club is far more important than today's Western Counties showdown with the same opponents.
The pair are set for two matches this weekend with both clubs looking to get a psychological advantage over the other in today's match.
Fubler, however, points out that today's game will feature guest players.
"The league match is more important to us than the Western County game," said Fubler. "Obviously it is for points, but we don't have a special feeling for Counties anymore.
"The County game won't have a bearing on how the league game goes, we have a few guest players coming into the side so that helps us in that department because we are short on players at the moment.
"But the result of the first game won't have any impact on second."
Cuts will be without Malachi Jones, who was the man of the day when Cuts beat PHC on the first weekend of the season by three wickets, along with Sheroy Fubler who is also serving a lengthy ban.
A bye last week, and the postponement of their game against St David's the previous week, means that Cuts have yet to play a game since Jones' two-week ban was handed down on June 15 by the Bermuda Cricket Board.
Also missing from the side will be Under-19 players Deunte Darrell and Kevon Fubler who are due to fly out for the upcoming Sir Garfield Sobers tournament in Barbados.
Regardless of who isn't in the line-up to play in tomorrow's game, Fubler is adamant that the side can cope with the loss of key players, with youngsters being given their chance to showcase their skills.
"Minus Malachi and our two youngsters who are all out of the weekend, we are at full strength and we have capable replacements for those who are unavailable.
"The youngsters that are coming in for the missing players are pretty much seniors now, they train with us and are there for our games, so I don't think we will be undermanned.
"It is good to have a few players coming through the ranks so you don't have to go outside of the club looking for players like other clubs.
"We have very promising young players and it is good to have them coming through, it is a bonus almost to have them.
"Our season has been unfortunate because lately we have been the target team. It is really unfortunate that's the way it is playing out, but we must not look at the negative and concentrate on what we have to do."
