Woman rode past Police station – the wrong way

A Paget woman was banned from the road for a year after she was caught riding a motorcycle while impaired.

According to Crown counsel Larissa Burgess, Laura Semos, 39, was seen by Police riding past the Hamilton Police Station travelling the wrong way on the one-way street at 1.50 am Thursday. Officers told her she was riding in the wrong direction and ordered her to pull over, but she turned the bike around and kept riding.

Police pull her over near Fagan's Alley. Asked if she had been drinking, she replied: "No, you told me to park the cycle."

Noticing that Semos smelled of alcohol and appeared to have difficulty putting her bike on its stand, Police arrested her on suspicion of driving while impaired. She was kept overnight at Southside Police station, but was described by officers as being very uncooperative, refusing to let officers take her personal belongings.

She repeatedly requested an attorney, but Ms Burgess said efforts to find one proved futile. Semos pleaded guilty Thursday to driving while impaired, but otherwise remained silent. Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner banned her from riding all vehicles for one year, along with imposing a $1,000 fine and ten demerit points.
