Argus Group hosts annual health fair today
If you've been procrastinating with plans to start living a more healthy life, today is a good day to finally turn over that new leaf.
It's World Health Day and to mark it, the Argus Group is holding its annual health fair in partnership with the Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) and the Department of Health.
The free event will be held at Number Six Shed, and will include information booths on a variety of health topics – from medical insurance to angioplasty, dental health to water treatment.
Thirty of Bermuda's health-related charities, organisations and professionals will be on hand from 10.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer questions and provide health and wellness information.
Approximately 50 BHB staff will be on hand with details on major illnesses affecting the community including diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer.
"All of us at BHB are passionate about health and wellness as we also see the impact of an unhealthy lifestyle on the body and the mind," said BHB CEO David Hill. "As Bermuda's only hospitals, we are working hard to improve access to health services and also provide education and advice on how to improve wellness."
This year Argus is concentrating on driving home the importance of good nutrition. Under the theme 'Five Ways to Five-a-Day', the company will stress the importance of eating an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables on a daily basis.
"When we look at the root causes of the four most serious health conditions in Bermuda – diabetes, heart disease, obesity and cancer – we see how vital proper nutrition is," said Argus president and CEO Gerald Simons.
"Ninety-three percent of adults in Bermuda don't get the recommended five servings of fruit and vegetables a day. At Argus we believe that when people better understand how their daily choices affect their lives over the long-term, they are better able to make positive change."
