Ms Brash has had two interviews for a correspondent's job with NBC's prestigious current affairs programme "Dateline''.

She has been told that if she fails to land the Dateline job, there may be vacancies on business channels CNBC and MSNBC.

Her father sent tapes to the network station, but Ms Brash was candid enough to admit she had to go to New York for two other try-outs because the videos were not of a high enough quality.

Ms Brash, who has been the news anchor woman at VSB for the past year and a half, said she hoped to hear by the end of this week if she was successful.

She said NBC asked her to come to New York in October and December after receiving her tape to do a professional voice-over.

"I had to do a Dateline script and at the moment I am waiting for them to put a tape together, and it's taking so long.

"I think it went great. I didn't have to do any studio stuff. My camera stuff was great.'' She said one possible obstacle for her was that she had not done any hard-hitting stories or confrontational interviews.

She said the correspondent's job would involve travelling to different places covering a variety of stories.

Ms Brash said she was not allowing herself to get too excited about the prospect of moving to New York in case the job falls through.

"I'm 50/50 about it. If it happens, great, if it doesn't, I've got a lax attitude, because it will always be there if I want to pursue it,'' she said.

"If I get an offer great. But I'm not holding my breath and getting too hopeful.''
