Christmas cards to help education

A Bermudian student who was fortunate enough to realise his dreams is using his artistic talent, plus a dose of holiday cheer, to help others.

Warren Fray has produced a series of Christmas cards, depicting local scenery, to raise funds to help students realise their educational goals.

The proceeds from the sale of the cards will be invested towards an educational scholarship in the name of Mr. Fray's parents William and Madeline.

"The scholarship is to provide educational funding for deserving Bermudians,'' Mr. Fray explained. "It is a way of paying tribute to my parents for helping my brother, sisters and I to realise our dreams.'' Using his architectural skills to create pen and ink drawings of Bermuda, Mr.

Fray began Shades of Grey in 1992 to help pay his way through college.

Mr. Fray recently graduated with his masters in architecture and will soon return to Bermuda after sitting the Californian board exams.

Now that his education is completed, Mr. Fray said he decided to use his company to generate funds to help other Bermudians.

"He could not get the help that he needed when he was going to school, he had to work and save,'' explained Madeline Fray. "But he hopes that this will help someone else achieve their dream.

"This is the first time he has done Christmas cards and they are all done in black and white.'' And she said that she was honoured to have the scholarship named after herself and her husband.

"It is lovely. To have something like this named in our honour is really something.'' The Shades of Grey Christmas cards will be available at the Phoenix Store, A.S.Coopers and the Royal Naval Dockyard. Each box of ten cards will sell for $17.50.
