A piano recital by 14-year-old Miss Emily Lurie takes place at 7 p.m. Sunday at City Hall, and not on Saturday as reported yesterday.

The benefits of the Suzuki method of teaching music will be on display this coming Saturday when a 14-year old pianist from Monterey, California, gives a piano recital at City Hall.

Miss Emily Lurie began studying piano at the age of four and has been winning prizes since 1983 when she won first prize from the Music Teachers' Association of California. She was also the winner of the Baroque Award, given to the best performer of a baroque piece at the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition.

This year, she was selected to play in the Junior Bach Festival in Berkeley, California.

Her programme will include the Partita in B Flat Major by Bach, Sonata in E Flat Major by Haydn, the G Minor Ballade and other pieces by Chopin and two Preludes by Debussy. The main work in her recital will be the Second Concert Etude by Liszt.

Musician and teacher, Mrs. Ann Brown, of the Bermuda Suzuki Association and the Dunbarton School of Music, says: "I had the privilege of hearing Emily play last year in Canada and she is very, very gifted.'' Also featured in the concert will be eight members of the Senior Violin Group of the Bermuda Suzuki Academy. The group, who have been playing together for five years, are under the direction of Suzuki Academy teacher, Ms. Joan Stewart, and will be accompanied by Mrs. Jane Farge.

Their repertoire will include two Concertos for Two Violins by Bach and Vivaldi, Cuckoo by Daquin, a Concerto by Seitz and Pachelbel's Canon.

The concert will take place at City Hall on Saturday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Tickets at $12 (children/senior citizens $8) may be reserved, Tel. 238-0789, from Meyer Agencies Ltd, Tel. 295-4176, or at the door.
