Colts looking to squeeze Village out of picture
The four semi-final places in the Martonmere Cup could be decided tomorrow at Bernard Park when a double-header is staged.
Devonshire Colts need just a draw against Group B leaders, Dandy Town, in the 2:00 opener to book the second spot ahead of North Village who have already played their two matches.
The Red Devils will have to adopt a wait-and-see approach, hoping that Town beat Colts by two clear goals to enable them to advance to next month's semi-finals.
Town are already certain of taking one of the two spots as only Colts can finish ahead of them. But now Town can have a say in who joins them in the next round.
Defending champions Boulevard, by virtue of their 3-0 win over Southampton Rangers, should clinch one of the Group A places. Vasco, their opponents in last year's final, could settle both places by handing Rangers their second defeat, which would then set the stage for an interesting clash between Vasco and Boulevard to see who wins the group.
If Rangers, as they did last November in the league, can stop Vasco, that could set the stage for a three-way tie on points as Vasco would then have to beat Boulevard to keep their hopes alive. After their last outing, Rangers will need a marked improvement against Vasco in tomorrow's 4:00 match. Janeiro Tucker and Kwame Tucker, two key members of Rangers' team, are also both in the national cricket squad which travels to Guyana next weekend and may skip this match, although they have not been given a directive by the BCBC not to play football in the lead up to the Red Stripe.
Meanwhile, the match between Vasco and Boulevard, which was postponed in midweek because of the weather, has been rescheduled for Wednesday night at BAA Field (8.00).
