US expert to shed light on effects of cell-towers

The community group fighting a high-powered cellular antenna installation in their neighbourhood will this week bring in an American expert to present their case.

Invited by Community Against Radiation Emissions (CARE), David Carpenter will speak at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Friday at 10.30 a.m.

about the potential health effects of electromagnetic fields.

A professor of environmental health, toxicology and biomedical sciences, at the State University of New York at Albany, he will talk about his research and experience.

He will also be available to speak to Government Ministers and Health Department officials.

Dr. Carpenter is a graduate of Harvard University medical school and is the author of hundreds of articles, and four books.

He is also the host of a public health radio show broadcast throughout the US.

A report on the 38 antennae currently operating in Bermuda is being prepared by a communications specialist brought in by the Telecommunications and Health Ministries.

CARE is battling the installation of a cellular tower and antenna at Faraway Lane, Warwick owned by Bermuda Digital Communications and its subsidiary, CellularOne.
