Goater hits goal trail in 3-0 win

Shaun Goater bagged a brace as Reading kept up the pressure on First Division leaders West Brom with a 3-0 win over Wimbledon at the weekend.

Goater's goals take his tally to four in five games since he moved from Manchester City to the Madjeski Stadium.

"We had a good day at the office today," Goater told Reading's official website, www.readingfc.co.uk, "We came here and knew it would be a difficult test. There was no home atmosphere but our fans really livened things up for us.

"They made themselves heard and they really helped us. They helped us settle down and we played some good football."

Goater opened the scoring in the 12th minute and then scored his side's third on 58.

"At 1-0 we got a little bit too relaxed but that only lasted ten or 15 minutes. When we got the second we were able to be comfortable and it ended up being a good win for us," Goater said.

The Bermudian said despite their position Reading would not be getting complacent.

"It's a good position to be in. Things are going well. I've scored a few, goals are coming from all over the pitch, we're solid at the back but it's early days yet," he said. "We are not getting carried away but things are going nicely."

Goater has also spoken of the rumours surrounding Reading boss Alan Pardew and the vacant managerial position at divisional rivals West Ham United.

Pardew has been linked with the Upton Park job since the sacking of Glenn Roeder but Goater hopes it just remains paper talk.

"It worries me as he is one hell of a manager," he said. "If he goes it will be very disappointing as there's a lot of respect for him."
