BDA mourn death of stalwart Holder
Bermuda Darts Association are mourning the death of long-serving executive member John Holder who recently passed away at the age of 62.
Members have paid tribute to Holder, describing him as a tireless worker who went to extraordinary lengths to ensure the Association was run in an efficient manner.
When tournaments were held on the Island or abroad, Holder was invariably involved in the organisation.
Former president Steve Hickmott said Holder had made a huge contribution to the BDA over the years, holding down practically every executive post from president to fixtures secretary.
"John wasn't just a long-time executive of the Bermuda Darts Association but he was also a founding member of the Caribbean Darts Association which includes Jamaica and Florida, and he served as president of the CDA for some time," said Hickmott.
"He obviously had been playing darts for a considerably long time.
"He held practically every position available on the BDA. He was a very keen player. He had his own different style when he played darts, it was almost like he had a rocking motion and if he had this motion you were in for a very hard game because you knew he was on form."
According to Hickmott, Holder knew the "ins and outs of both the local and international darts scene" and would be sadly missed.
Holder and his wife Ruth, also an avid player, teamed up to win the Bermuda Open mixed doubles in 1966 and John partnered Bill Booth to win the Bermuda Open doubles in 1984 and 1985 when they were recognised as one of the top pairs on the Island.
Holder leaves behind wife Ruth and son David.
