Town honour Bascome
Outgoing Dandy Town coach Andrew Bascome has been presented with an award for his contribution to local soccer.
During an impromptu ceremony held at TheRoyal Gazette, Town assistant coach Leroy (Curly Joe) Wilson was on hand to present an inscribed plaque to Bascome who is set to retire at the end of the season after 16 years of coaching.
"It is a pleasure to present Mr. Bascome with an award like this," he said. "He deserves it, he has worked hard for it."
An emotional Bascome, caught somewhat by surprise, humbly accepted the honour.
"All that I can say is thank you very much," he said. "It has been tough, but the memories have been great. When I think back on some of the things that I have accomplished, the sacrifices . . . it has been a lot of time . . . it has been great!"
Bascome's wife Selina also received an award - a crystal clock - for her generous support and patience.
"Wherever there is a good man, there is also a good woman," added Wilson. "That's why she is in the spotlight for an award too. It is a team effort."
Selina was also very appreciative of the gesture.
"This is very good and much appreciated," she said. "He's going to miss it and really I don't know what I am going to do with myself on Sunday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
"I think I am going to miss it too - the many late nights staying awake to pick the team!"
