Dr. Cook is not the issue

May I say to C.A. Dawson (<I>Royal Gazette</I> December 18) who asks "Is the only thing Dr. Cook ever accomplished in his life being a white man? Dr. Cook is not the issue. The exact problem is that in Bermuda, historically and traditionally, and too often today, to be white is all that is required for acceptance, recognition, promotions and a good salary. Not to be white is sufficient for rejection and denial of all of the above! That was the point of my initial letter, "being white" being preferred by both whites and too many blacks!

Dear Sir,

May I say to C.A. Dawson (Royal Gazette December 18) who asks "Is the only thing Dr. Cook ever accomplished in his life being a white man? Dr. Cook is not the issue. The exact problem is that in Bermuda, historically and traditionally, and too often today, to be white is all that is required for acceptance, recognition, promotions and a good salary.
