Make the legislation on drink-driving make sense
Dear Sir,
On Page 3 of today’s Royal Gazette (July 2, 2021), your reporter Sarah Lagan reported on three cases before the courts. Two of these were for breach of curfew and were fined $1,500. The third case was a DUI — at twice the legal limit — and fined $1,000 with 18 months off the road.
Legislation needs to be changed to address this inequity. When a vehicle operator under the influence, who can potentially kill themselves and/or other people, is fined two-thirds of what someone is fined for breaking curfew, it does not make sense.
When will our politicians have the guts to do what is right and stop this legislative inaction, kowtowing to their voter base, while people are dying in road incidents at a higher rate than the Covid epidemic?
