Dage Minors wins 10K at Great Bristol Run
Dage Minors showed his city of residence just how strong his running power is by winning the 10K at the Great Bristol Run.
Minors, who is based full time in the English city in what he describes as a “huge year” as he attempts to qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games and Commonwealth Games, came home well clear of the field in front of thousands of spectators.
The Bermudian distance runner crossed the line in 30min 24sec, 28 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor Morgan Roberts.
It caps a fantastic few weeks for Minors, who recently became a national champion after forming part of the successful team in the English Road Running Association’s Road Relay Championship.
Competing for the Bristol West Athletics Club, Minors was part of a 12-strong team to win gold in Birmingham, with his time the third-fastest of 67 runners on his lap.
Just a few hours after Minors tasted victory in England, more than 200 runners and walkers took to the streets of Hamilton for the Waterfront Wellness 5K.
The majority of favourites for the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby chose to rest their legs with the big race less than two weeks away, so it was left to youngster Jake Smith to take victory.
Smith, 17, recently competed for Bermuda at the Carifta Games in Trinidad and he showed his class to win on home soil in a time of 17:31. That was 26 seconds faster than runner-up Philip Woollins (17:57) with Tim Price (18:02) finishing third.
Stepanka Sprincova, who always runs with credit, finished fifth overall and won the women’s race in 19:24, 40 seconds ahead of runner-up Meghan Diel (20:04). Rose-Anna Hoey, who recently completed the Boston Marathon, finished third (20:34)
