Jakeem Jennings helps Harborough to trophy success
Jakeem Jennings ended a rollercoaster season in glory after helping Harborough Town Under-23s win the Midland Football League Challenge Trophy.
The 22-year-old midfielder netted his team’s third goal, his seventh of the season, in a convincing 3-0 win over Chasetown Under-23s at the Oval Stadium in Warwickshire.
“It feels good to finish the season with silverware,” an elated Jennings told The Royal Gazette. “It was a season of ups and downs but I am glad to end on a high and build on this for the next season.”
Archie O’Donnell struck twice to earn the young Bees a comfortable two-goal advantage before Jennings got in on the scoring act to put the game beyond the opposition’s reach.
“It took me a while to get into the game but I kept going and was able to get the last goal to seal the win in a game I feel like we dominated throughout by limiting the opposition chances and taking ours when the time came,” said Jennings, the son of Keith Jennings, the Southampton Rangers player-coach and former Village midfielder.
“The team has worked extra hard throughout the season. We really picked up and I also picked up form and scored a few goals towards the end of the season.”
Jennings is one of two Bermudians on Town’s roster alongside Bakari Furbert, who did not feature in the final after already returning home for the summer break.
Former North Village player Jennings has gone from strength to strength since recovering from an ankle injury which sidelined him for a significant portion of the 2023-24 campaign.
Josh Unsworth’s young Bees finished third in the Midland Football League Development Division this season before ending the season on a high with silverware.
