Drive-in event takes interactive approach
An open-air, summer cinematic tradition in Hamilton took an interactive twist with patrons winning prizes during a segment of the event.
Fresh Air Films, organised by the City of Hamilton, drew crowds to Barr’s Bay Park on June 21 for a fun-filled evening of blockbuster entertainment, games and giveaways.
With views of Hamilton Harbour in the backdrop, hundreds of attendees enjoyed screenings of Mufasa: The Lion King and Captain America: Brave New World.
The free event featured live Kahoot trivia and players competed for prizes including wireless headphones, a children’s scooter and party speakers in a raffle.
The City thanked vendors who offered snacks and treats throughout the evening.
Lorna Hayward, the City’s senior events co-ordinator, said: “We want to thank everyone who came out.
“It was wonderful to see families, friends and film fans enjoying the evening together.
“We’re especially grateful for the local businesses and vendors who helped make the night such a success.”
The City said the event came soon after its latest satisfaction survey, which showed strong demand for outdoor events.
Results indicated that almost 40 per cent of Hamilton-based residents would like more outdoor film nights.
Ms Hayward added: “Events like this are a reflection of our commitment to building a vibrant, inclusive Hamilton where people want to gather, connect and create memories.”
Attendees were encouraged to share feedback by completing a short survey to help shape future Fresh Air Films events.
To attend the event, attendees were asked to present a receipt showing $25 or more purchase from any business in the city between May 1 and June 21.
The film series is part of the City’s efforts to support economic activity in Hamilton.
By requiring a receipt from any City business for entry, the event encourages attendees to shop and dine locally — a move which benefits restaurants, retailers and service providers.
The City said the event also created opportunities for entrepreneurs as event vendors, which helped to spotlight small businesses and foster a vibrant atmosphere.
