MS Reinsurance leadership shake-up
Global reinsurer MS Reinsurance has made a series of leadership changes to its underwriting operations in Switzerland, Bermuda and the United States.
Structural adjustments have also been made within the Americas, international, and global speciality lines business units to ensure a more direct connection to clients.
MS Re will organise its speciality offering underneath a global speciality lines umbrella, including engineering to let the firm concentrate on the unique needs of these business lines.
Its Americas and international property and casualty offering will be further aligned to client types to deepen client understanding, deliver broad client solutions, and meet the evolving demands of its client base.
“These changes will build on our success to date and put us in a position to continue growing our business in the future,” said Charles Goldie, group chief underwriting officer. “Over the past three years we have nearly doubled the size of our business by focusing on the key needs of our clients, and being a reliable and consistent partner for our brokers and clients.”
He said MS Re has built a strong team of underwriters, and a well-diversified portfolio consistent with its strategy.
“These changes more closely connect our structure to our clients, to serve them in the most straightforward way,” Mr Goldie said.
Joerg Bruniecki will become chief underwriting officer, global speciality lines, while Andy Hottinger will be CUO, international. Louis de Segonzac will continue in his role as CUO, Americas.
Within global speciality lines, MS Re has promoted Paul Murphy to lead a dedicated financial risks team responsible for the global credit, surety, political risk and mortgage business.
A speciality property team, led by Andrew Shaw, will manage global engineering and other speciality risks including complex industrial and corporate risks.
Rinat Bektleuov will continue to run agriculture.
Within the international business unit, David Raich has been promoted to lead European mature markets. Luciano Castagna will head growth markets while Asia-Pacific and international complex cat will be managed by Phil Froncioni.
Stefan Behr will head international casualty, managing general agent and non-standard solutions.
MS Re said these changes enhance its client-oriented structure, while recognising the growth of the MGA market in Europe and the opportunities it may present.
A spokesman for the firm said the Americas business unit structure closely mirrors the region’s client types.
Joe Banker will lead the regional client team, and Maria Amelio will oversee national carriers led by Jerry Farrell, and MGA/programme business led by MJ Chapleau. Lucas Castagnino will continue to run the Latin America and Caribbean arena, with no change to the structure.
“Our approach to the reinsurance business is quite simple – understand our clients well, provide solutions that make their business better and be easy to work with,” Mr Goldie said. “We have done a great job on this to date, and these changes ensure that we continue to build on this success in the future.”
