A bright future is expected for the latest lawyer to join the Bermuda Bar, who was welcomed to the fraternity at a ceremony held in the Supreme Court on Friday.

Mya Gibbons started her pupillage at Appleby last September after serving as a paralegal at the firm and interning at Appleby Global Services.

“I am honoured to join the ranks of the distinguished members of the Bermuda Bar,” she said.

“I extend my heartfelt thanks to all who have guided me along this path and helped shape my knowledge over the years, leading me to this milestone moment.”

Ms Gibbons, who studied at the University of Law and the University of Birmingham, added: “It has been a privilege to undertake my training at Appleby, where I gained invaluable experience and express my sincere appreciation to the exceptional lawyers who supported and challenged me throughout my pupillage.

“I look forward with great excitement to beginning my journey as a legal professional.”

Now in her second year of Appleby’s legal training programme, the lawyer was praised by Matthew Ebbins-Brewer and Cathryn Minors, both of whom served as her mentors.

Ms Minors offered congratulations and said: “Mya has consistently impressed us with her hard work, professionalism and pleasant manner.

“Mya always approaches every task with diligence and commitment and has proven herself to be a reliable and capable member of the team.

“It has been a genuine pleasure to work alongside Mya and I look forward to continuing to do so in the future.”

Mr Ebbs-Brewer added that it was a pleasure to have Ms Gibbons on his team for a period of her pupillage.

“It was fantastic to have someone who was able to establish themselves, become such a valued member and leave a real impact in what is a relatively short space of time,” he said.

“The work can be exceptionally demanding, requiring working with high volumes of documents with the ability to apply significant attention to detail in what were often time-pressured situations.

“If Mya continues to apply herself in this fashion, I am sure she will have a very bright future.”
